Basic Principles of Complementary/ Alternative Therapies
JUST AS MAINSTREAM MEDICINE has a fairly consistent approach to illness, so does al-ternative medicine. Most prevalent in alternative medicine are the six naturopathic principles. In one form or another, these principles are revisited again and again throughout Section Two of this text. The following principles are described by Dr. Catherine Downey and excerpted from her chapter on naturopathic medicine.
1. The Healing Power of Nature (Vis medicatix naturae)
The body has the inherent ability to establish, maintain and restore health. The healing process is ordered and intelligent: nature heals through the response of the life force. The physician’s role is to facilitate and augment this process, to act to identify and remove obstacles to health and recovery, and to support the creation of a healthy internal and external environment. In short, give the body the appropriate tools and it will heal itself.
2. Treat the Whole Person (The multifactorial nature of health and disease)
Health and disease are conditions of the whole organism, involving a complex interaction of physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, and social factors. The physician must treat the whole person by taking all of these factors into account. The harmonious functioning of all aspects of the individual is essential to recovery from and prevention of disease and requires a personalized and comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment.
3. First Do No Harm (Primum no nocere)
Illness is a purposeful process of the organism. The process of healing includes the generation of symptoms, which are, in fact, an expression of the life force attempting to heal itself. Therapeutic actions should be complementary to and synergistic with this healing process. The physician’s actions can support or antagonize the actions of the vis mediatrix naturae; therefore methods designed to suppress symptoms without removing underlying causes are considered harmful and are avoided or minimized. Therapeutic actions are applied in an ordered fashion congruent with the internal order of the organism.
4. Identify and Treat the Cause (Tolle causam)
Illness does not occur without cause. Underlying causes of disease must be discovered and removed or treated before a person can recover completely from illness. Symptoms are expressions of the body’s attempt to heal, but they are not the cause of disease; therefore naturopathic medicine addresses itself promptly to the underlying causes of disease, rather than symptoms. Causes may occur on many levels, including physical, mental-emotional, and spiritual. The physician must evaluate fundamental underlying causes on all levels, directing treatment at root cause rather than at symptomatic expression.
5. Prevention (Prevention is the best “cure”)
The ultimate goal of naturopathic medicine is prevention. This is accomplished through education and promotion of lifestyle habits that create good health. The physician assesses risk factors and hereditary susceptibility to disease and makes appropriate interventions to avoid further harm and risk to the patient. The emphasis is on building health rather than on fighting disease. Because it is difficult to be healthy in an unhealthy world, it is the responsibility of both the physician and patient to create a healthier environment in which to live.
6. The Physician as Teacher (Docere)
Beyond an accurate diagnosis and appropriate prescription, the physician must work to create a health-sensitive, interpersonal relationship with the patient. A cooperative doctor-patient relationship has inherent therapeutic value. The physician’s major role is to educate and encourage the patient to take responsibility for health. The physician is a catalyst for healthful change, empowering and motivating the patient to assume responsibility. It is the patient, not the doctor, who ultimately creates or accomplishes healing. The physician must strive to inspire hope as well as understanding. Physicans must also make a commitment to their personal and spiritual development in order to be good teachers.
Healthy Lifestyle and Eating Habits
April 27, 2010
Now there is a store that will take care of your should be eating habits through healthy cooking and eating. There are healthy eating habits or things we ‘should have’ done or want to do in the future, such as start baking our own bread, start juicing fruits etc. Healthy eating has benefits we know are essential such as preservative free drinks or good wholewheat natural bread with fibre and wheatgerm that is known to be cancer and illness fighting foods. Obesity in most countries has come to be due to unnatural refined foods that have all the carbs, but no nutrition, being the food of choice. Hey, if it tastes good, it okay right? Well, how about if it’s healthy and tastes good. Nowadays, healthy food takes time and money to prepare, versus healthy convenience food such as fast food.
We have to start asking ourselves the question, at what price will we neglect our responsibility to our families to give them the correct nutrition. We need to invest the small amount of time needed, to make healthy food at home, such as homemade bread, juice, dried foods, canned foods etc. The benefit will become apparent when you realize that you have 6 months worth of food stored in your pantry, without the need to spend money on a daily basis for food essentials, and having saved hundreds of dollars on your food bill, not to mention the convenience of natural, healthy homemade foods. If all this seems a little overwhelming, the payoff is huge and the health benefit enormous.
Let me ease your anxiety here. Preparing your own healthy cooking and foods is not as difficult or challenging as it may appear. In a modern society we have more advanced tools and gadgets that can help us prepare healthy food fast and easily. We can buy grain from a farmer or supplier and store it in a dry moist free space which could feed generations or just your family for the next year or two or more, depending on the quantity you want to store. Grain storage has always been the solution to starving nations since ancient Egypt. A handy grain mill will take care of your daily flour needs by easily grinding grain into healthy and wholesome flour you can use for cooking, baking or sauces.
Remember to start your vegetable garden in that backyard space not being used for anything and start growing healthy fresh and natural vegetables and fruits for your healthy families daily consumption. You will discover the wonder of fresh produce and the taste they bring to you. With any excess vegetables you could can them for storage and consumption at a later date, eliminating spoilage etc. Even if you have too much, use excess and overproduction for your compost heap which will generate healthy mineral and oxygen rich food for your vegetable garden which will ensure good production and growth for the future.
Imagine you can produce fruit or vegetable juices on demand, that will be healthy and vitamin rich with absolutely no preservatives or additives. How about all that fruit you may have that may spoil, you can easily use a food dehydrator to turn that into fruits you can eat at anytime in the future, eliminating food spoilage. You can turn that into jelly or into sauces as well such as fruit chutney.
We have an obligation to ourselves and to our families to engage in healthy cooking and enabling our families to eat healthy. The benefits far outweigh the time invested in setting up new healthy eating habits. The benefits to having a healthy family is very important from controlling weight gain to fighting illnesses. Most healthy eating habits are essential to living a healthy lifestyle. Visit us at www.saintsvalley.com to explore our healthy lifestyle products.

Tramadol is not a drug of abuse
April 26, 2010
The US healthcare system is often torn between conflicting forces. On a professional level, doctors are supposed to place the interests of their patients first. So, it is reasonable for the profession to respond to a shortage of proper pain management facilities in the hospital sector by establishing “pain clinics”. In theory, these clinics will provide short-term care with mixed teams of doctors, physical and psychological therapists, and nursing professionals able to counsel and advise people on how to manage their pain. Unfortunately, the medical profession is strongly for profit. It would be good if there was a major stream of altruism running through the modern ranks of healthcare professionals. Unfortunately, an increasing number of doctors are abandoning general practice in favor of employed status in clinics and hospitals. This gives stability of earning with the least possible work commitment. It also enables the management to run their facilities to generate the most income from the lowest cost base. Thus, the reality of many pain clinics is they are “pill mills”, i.e. their main function is to supply people with every possible painkiller with the least possible time spent in expensive face-to-face contact between doctors and the people. Such clinics are characterized by long queues of people waiting to see a doctor to collect prescriptions. Doctors are on a quota target to see a minimum number of patients every day. This maximizes the claims to the health insurers by the volume of people seen. For those not on a health plan, it is a cheap consult system since no treatment is involved.
This is not to deny that some clinics are attempts to offer a professional service to those in genuine need. But such beacons of light are few and far between. How do we know this? Because there is an explosion in the number of pain clinics opening across America. In some areas, the local government is trying to control the problem. At least, there are political calls for the profession to rein in these fast prescription services. At best, there are local bans on the approval of new clinics. Sadly, the lobbying power of the medical profession means there are very few state-wide limits either on the establishment of clinics or on the practice of writing prescriptions for hundreds of pills at a time. Some local politicians are proposing ordinances to prohibit clinics from prescribing pain medication except in emergency situations and then only offering a 72-hour refill, expecting the individuals to return to their regular doctors for proper care. Their chances of being able to control the problem are slim without the support of state governments and the medical profession.
This is a tragic situation. There is a real need for professional pain management services at both a local and county level. Unfortunately, the medical profession is exploiting the public and feeding their growing addiction to pain medications. People, being practical, take pain relief in whatever form is available. If that means endless supplies of drugs, they take it. The best practice standards in other countries with public healthcare services does provide mixed teams of pain management specialists who focus on training people to cope using only low level painkillers. For example, they are allowed to buy tramadol. Because the higher labor costs are absorbed by the taxpayers, a significantly better service results. Because tramadol is not habit-forming to the same degree as more powerful drugs, this is a safer system for managing pain.

We are providing you the mental peace through zmeditation.com with various courses and techniques like Meditation Courses, Online meditation course, How to meditate, meditation retreats, Meditation technique etc. Z Meditation is a systematic deep work of inquiring into the conditionings that are hidden in the unconscious regions of your mind. There is a possibility for you to completely eliminate suffering from your life. Freedom, Bliss and Awareness are not mere esoteric words. You can experience them as your true identities.
Z Meditation Online Course is a beautifully effective solution to overcome this problem. Sitting at home and doing all your daily chores, there is a possibility of learning and practicing the deepest principles of freedom – freedom from all deep rooted stories, illusions, conditionings and agitations. Using these principles, in the past thirteen years, thousands of students have been able to transcend their deep-rooted habit patterns and see refreshing light for their lives. The effects of this work are literally mind blowing!
In the Z Meditation Spiritual Retreats, the technique used is rational and analytical. You learn to detach from your mind’s patterns and systematically root out the roots of turbulence using deep inquiry. You employ radiant and rational mantras to get established in your pristine glory. The silence helps a lot in deep contemplation and integration.
Most of us here have forgotten smiling. Who has the time to care and share? We have got so much lost in the un-necessities and urgencies of life that the truly important values have been forgotten. Our mental state is clearly reflected on our faces. Why has this happened? Do we want to get back to the state of childlike carefree-ness and abandon? Do we have time to reflect and take corrective actions? Do we understand that the best changes about life are internal changes? Let us make one thing very clear to ourselves – if we don’t do something about our minds now, if we are not proactively trying to lift it out of its current state, it will always remain like that. It will not change and there is no magic wand that can change it overnight.
Z Meditation is taught in two levels. The first level is a fifteen-day and the second is a eight-day silent retreat held at Z Meditation Center in India. In the first level of learning, one gets all the basic knowledge of mind and meditation. One gets the knowledge and practice of the Deep DeConditioning Inquiry and Radiant Mantras. In the second level, the questions of Deep DeConditioning Inquiry deepen further and the strongest false beliefs are rooted out from the mind. The second level helps in realizing the Self that is the source of the mind and the universe.

Weight Loss Diet Program Failure Overcoming Two Leading Problems
April 26, 2010
A large number of people around the world are overweight. Most of them have been following different programs that would help them to lose weight but they were not successful. If you ask any person for the reasons of their failure, one way or the other they will give you the following two problems:
1. They could not follow the program.
2. They lost some weight but could not maintain it.
These two problems are the biggest ones that most people face but this does not mean that they are the only ones. Both of these problems are related to the human mind and not human body. Your exercise plan or diet has got nothing to do with the failure. The main cause of this failure is the mind state of a human being; he is expected to follow the program with consistency which for some people is not possible. Another reason for this failure is the conflict between a person\’s unconscious and conscious state of mind. These two are the reasons due to which a person fails to lose his or her weight. If you are not prepared then nothing can help you get the required results.
The only solution to this problem is to change the entire life style of a person. This will help his sub-conscious mind to accept it and he will be able to follow the plan with more consistency. This shift will solve all the problems and the person will adapt to the new settings. Now this will be more of an adopted life style than a forced on. Now the person will follow the whole diet and exercise program without any trouble. There are numerous advance mind trainings that can help you achieve this state of mind, magically slim being one of them. With the required mind state in place a person will easily follow all the weight loss programs and will be able to maintain it for a long period of time.
With the mind state in place you will need to find yourself a good diet and exercise plan. You can only lose your weight if you are able to burn more calories than you take in. For this reason you need to have a good diet plan. You can ask a doctor to tell you about healthy foods with low calories or you can ask your friends who are already following a plan. You can also use the internet yourself and then evaluate the food items. This way you can eat what you want and you will know how much calories it contains. With your diet plan in place it\’s time to get yourself a good exercise plan. You can go for some basic exercises or advanced exercise but this depends on your level of experience. You can buy the necessary equipment or join a gym for this reason. You also have another option! If you don\’t want to follow exercises then you can go out for walking, cycling, swimming or running. They don\’t require any specialized equipment so they are much easier to adopt.
